Recognitions demonstrate West Boca’s excellence in providing health services for women

Boca Raton, Fla. (June 17, 2015) – West Boca Medical Center proudly accepts the Healthgrades 2015 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award™ and the Healthgrades 2015 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™.  These accolades signify West Boca Medical Center’s commitment to providing excellent care for women during childbirth, as well as during and after gynecologic surgeries and procedures.

“We have a longstanding reputation for providing outstanding care to women and babies in the community,” said hospital CEO Mitch Feldman. “These distinctions are proof of our commitment to delivering high quality services on a daily basis.”

To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance in labor and delivery and obstetrics and gynecology, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data for virtually every hospital in the 13 states that provide all-payer state data for years 2011 through 2013.  Healthgrades found that the variation in hospital performance makes a significant difference in terms of clinical outcomes:

  • From 2011-2013, if all hospitals in the 13 states included in this analysis, as a group, performed similarly to hospitals receiving the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, on average, 92,883 patients experiencing one or more in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.
  • Further, from 2011-2013, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, have, on average, a 35.1 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award.
  • From 2011-2013, if all hospitals in the 13 states included in the analysis, as a group, performed similarly to hospitals receiving the Healthgrades 2015 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award, on average, 100,905 patients with one or more in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.
  • Additionally, from 2011-2013, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award have, on average, a 34.4 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award.

“When selecting a hospital, access to quality information can mean the difference between life and death, so it’s more important than ever that consumers research their choice,” said Evan Marks, chief strategy officer, Healthgrades. “Consumers can have confidence that West Boca Medical center, recognized as a Healthgrades 2015 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award and Healthgrades 2015 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award™ recipient, has demonstrated an established commitment to maternal, obstetrics and gynecological care.”

West Boca has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the highest designation possible by the state of Florida. The hospital has also been a recipient of the Healthgrades Maternity Care Excellence Award for nine years in a row.
