Annual event celebrates health staff’s daily impact on patient experience

Boca Raton, Fla. (April 27, 2015) – In recognition of the hospital’s ongoing efforts to improve the healthcare experience for patients, their families and caregivers, West Boca Medical Center celebrated Patient Experience (PX) Week April 27-May 1.

PX Week is brought to the healthcare community by The Beryl Institute, the global community of practice and premier thought leader on improving patient experience in healthcare. PX Week provides a time for organizations to celebrate accomplishments, reenergize efforts and honor the people who impact patient experience every day.

“From our nurses and physicians, to our support staff and administrative team, we all take pride in coming together to recognize Patient Experience Week,” said Mitch Feldman, CEO of West Boca Medical Center. “Although the observance is only a week long, providing our patients with a positive experience is central to how we operate on a daily basis.”

West Boca Medical Center celebrated its staff by:

  • Offering a series of workshops designed to identify workplace stressors and their effect on the employee. Staff was also provided with tools to mitigate the effects of a busy environment and maintain caring relationships with patients.
  • Establishing a peer nominated award process for employees to recognize their fellow employees whose daily work illustrates the mission, vision and core values of the hospital.
  • Hosting a special educational opportunity by Barbara Lewis, founder of Joan’s Family Bill of Rights
  • Launching a Patient and Family Advisory Council to work with hospital leadership and staff to maintain a patient and family centered culture and identify opportunities to improve the overall hospital experience.

According to Ruth Schwarzkopf, Chief Nursing Officer at West Boca Medical Center, “Establishing a Patient and Family Advisory Council is a natural progression in the steps we have taken over the last few years to engage patients and their family members as active participants in their care.”
