West Boca Medical Center Earns Healthgrades 2016 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™

Aug 2, 2016

Boca Raton, Fla. (August 2, 2016) – For the second consecutive year, West Boca Medical Center is proud to receive the 2016 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The distinction places West Boca within the top 10% of all hospitals evaluated for the exceptional care provided to mothers during labor and delivery.

“We are proud to accept this award, which highlights the outstanding work of our maternity team,” said Mitch Feldman, CEO of West Boca Medical Center. “This distinction is proof of our longstanding dedication to the safe delivery of babies in our community.”

To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance in labor and delivery, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data for virtually every hospital in the 17 states that provide all-payer state data for years 2012 through 2014. Healthgrades found that the variation in hospital performance makes a significant difference in terms of clinical outcomes:

  • From 2012-2014, if all hospitals in the 17 states included in this analysis, as a group, performed similarly to hospitals receiving the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, on average, 116,703 in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.
  • Further, from 2012-2014, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, had, on average, a 36.3% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award.

“Selecting a hospital for the birth of one’s child is the first healthcare decision made as parents,” said Evan Marks, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthgrades. “By choosing a hospital recognized as a Healthgrades 2016 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award recipient, parents can take comfort knowing that they have access to the highest quality care for their loved ones.”

In addition to this recognition, West Boca Medical Center’s dedication to patient safety is demonstrated by the hospital’s achievement of an “A” Hospital Safety Score from The Leapfrog Group for nine consecutive years. The Leapfrog Group assigns “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” scores to U.S. hospitals based on their performance in keeping patients safe from preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections. West Boca Medical Center is also among the first in the nation and the only hospital in Florida to achieve The Joint Commission’s Perinatal Care certification. This distinction recognizes accredited organizations looking to elevate their perinatal health care services.

West Boca Medical Center has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the highest designation possible by the state of Florida. For more information about the maternity services at West Boca Medical Center, please visit westbocamedctr.com/our-services/mother-baby
