Thoracic Surgery

West Boca surgeons are using the da Vinci® robotic surgical system for thoracic procedures. This minimally invasive approach has started to change the way surgeons operate inside the chest--especially in the lungs and esophagus. Using robotic surgery, thymectomies and other potentially traumatic procedures may be performed through 1-2 cm incisions, without spreading or cutting the breastbone or ribs, thereby minimizing blood loss, pain and scarring.

Thoracic robotics procedures may include Thymectomy (surgery to remove the thymus gland), Lobectomy (surgery to remove the lobe of a lung) and Esophagectomy (surgery to remove a portion of the esophagus).
